So, you want to be a writer, that was the title of the speech I gave today for a local bookclub.   In preparation for that speech I worked out handouts about knowing the market and figuring out genres and the basics of beginning a writing career. I was quite proud of how prepared I was to give the talk.

It was snowing and ugly out when I got up this morning and I worried that only one person would show up at the speech and that was my mommy, who was riding with me.  But, we had about ten lovely women show up.  I stood before them and said, "So, I understand all of you have an interest in becoming writers."

They all shook their head negatively.  Nobody was particularly interested in becoming a writer.  The handouts I'd made were useless as was the speech I'd prepared. 

It took only a few minutes of visiting with them (with a desperate glaze in my eyes) to realize they were die hard readers!  My favorite kind of people.  So, I threw out the speech and they began to ask questions, and interestly enough although none of them wanted to be writers but they wanted to know what it was like for me to be a writer. 

The hour sailed by and it was wonderful!  I gave them all books and hopefully I earned some new readers.  All in all a terrific experience.

And now I'm in my bathrobe, trying to figure out what I should be working on when all I really want to do is go to bed.  Hubby and I went out for all you can eat crab legs for dinner and I must have eaten forty pounds. 

Tomorrow is my writing chapter meeting then after that it's back to my love affair with my computer.  I've got SO much work to do!
